VMware Canada channel chief leaves company

jas-sahotaVmwareVMware Canada has confirmed Jas Sahota, the defacto channel chief of the Canadian subsidiary, has left the company.

According to one source close to the situation, Sahota, who ran VMware Canada’s partner and commercial sales, said he was “shocked” about his departure from the company. The same source told CDN that Sahota is a very smart and extremely pro channel executive.

Another source told CDN that Eric Gales, the new president of VMware Canada, is actively looking for a replacement for Sahota. CDN has reached out to Gales for an interview.

Sahota’s LinkedIn profile reads that he was promoted to the position of director, partner and commercial sales in 2008 and has held the position ever since.

He transferred to VMware from EMC, the parent company and was responsible for driving and executing strategy for the channel partner eco-system team across Canada.

Sahota’s profile goes on to say that he built a highly motivated partner eco-system team to distribution, solution providers, OEM partners and alliances that represented about 95 per cent revenue contribution last year. Sahota also developed and executed enablement plans for partners to increase sales of end user compute, application development and cloud based solutions. During his time at VMware Canada he launched the commercial business unit across Canada and implemented a market segmentation strategy to ensure adequate coverage for commercial business leveraging the partner eco-system.

Sahota’s departure comes at a time when VMware is reading channel partners for the general availability of VMware vCenter Operations Management Suite 5.6 and VMware vFabric Application Director 5.0. These new products feature new and enhanced capabilities for simplifying and automating the management of clouds and applications. Both new releases are included in the VMware vCloud Suite 5.1, a new solution that integrates VMware’s virtualization, cloud infrastructure and management portfolio into a single SKU.

And, about a few months after VMware and Hitachi expanded its strategic partnership to accelerate the deployment of reliable and trusted hybrid cloud solutions.
