Unlike rival tech giants such as Apple Corp. and Facebook Inc., the powers that be at Google Inc. have never showed much of an interest in building an iconic home base for their company – until now. The company’s hometown of Mountain View, Calif., recently approved a proposal that should more than rival Apple’s “spaceship” and Facebook’s Frank Gehry-designed headquarters. Check it out.
The proposal’s centrepiece will be a series of buildings housed in a tent-like canopy that will let in natural sunlight while serving as one of the largest (if not the largest) solar arrays ever built.
While the project will add a 595,000 square-foot office building to an 18.6-acre span of Mountain View and require the removal of 196 heritage trees, according to Curbed not one person opposed the proposal.
You know what they say about pictures being worth 1000 words. We have nothing else to add to these.
Though we do think it’s pretty classy that among all those acres, Google included a public park.
