Asus showcases dual screen Ultrabook/tablet at CES

They say two heads are better than one, but how about two screens?

Taiwanese PC vendor Asus Computer International is hoping the adage transfers. It’s using the Consumer Electronics Showcase (CES) to show off the Asus Taichi, an ultraportable with boasts two displays: 11.6” and 13.3”LED backlit IPS/FHD displays. The two displays allow the Taichi to function as both an Ultrabook or a tablet.

With the lid open it’s a laptop, with full qwerty keyboard and track pad. And with the lid closed, it’s a multitouch tablet with stylus support. Asus notes that, while they provide access to the same hardware, the two screens can be used simultaneously and independent of each other.

Under the hood, the Taichi boasts an 3rd generation Intel Core i3 processor, SSD storage and dual band 802.11n wireless.

Desktop and tablet combined

The Transformer AiO is another multi-function offering from Asus, combining an all-in-one desktop PC and a handheld tablet. It also has a second double-threat: users can choose two run two operating systems, with the option to switch back and forth between Windows 8 and Android 4.1 depending on what they need to use the device for.

The device features an 18.4”, 10-point touch LED-backlit IPS display and is powered by an Intel Core i3 chipset. To make it a tablet, users can detach the display from the all-on-one base to transform it into a wireless display. The tablet features an onboard Nvidia Tegra quad-core processor for use in tablet mode, and Asus claims users can switch between Android and Windows with the touch of a button.

A more portable version of the Transformer AiO is the Asus Transformer Book TX300CA, an Ultrabook laptop with a detachable display that functions as a tablet.

Powered by an Intel Core i7 processor with HD 400 graphics, as well as SSD and HDD storage, with 4GB DDT3 dual channel RAM, the TX300CA features a 13” HD IPS display with multi-touch that can be detaches from the full-sized qwerty keyboard to become a Windows 8 tablet.

Other products Asus is showcasing at CES include the VivoTab Smart Tablet with Windows 8, the Qube with Google TV, and the LED-backlit PA249Q professional-grade display.
