Cloud provider CenturyLink has announced it has acquired Orchestrate, a company that offers managed database services for application development.
The acquisition, according to CenturyLink, will improve on its existing cloud platform by creating a Database-as-a-Service offering.
“The Orchestrate database service’s ease of use and ability to support multiple database technologies have emerged as key differentiators that we are eager to offer our customers through the CenturyLink Cloud platform,” said Glen Post, chief executive officer and president of CenturyLink in a statement.
According to the company, Portland, OR-based Orchestrate provides a variety of managed NoSQL databases.
Furthermore, it provides “full-text search, time series, graph and key-value storage through a single, simple API that combines the developer-friendliness and ease of use of NoSQL databases with the reliability of distributed databases,” CenturyLink said.
Earlier this year, CenturyCloud became a member of the Open Data Platform, a new alliance to create and push for big data technology using open source. It was also named among the top 10 cloud providers with Canadian operations by IDC Canada.
