Data centre collocation and network solution provider Cologix Inc. announced the development of a third data centre in Vancouver, bringing the company’s total across Canada to 11.

VAN3 is expected to be completed by the second quarter of 2019, and according to Cologix, will deliver an additional five megawatts (MW) of power. Pre-sale opportunities are available now.

“There is significant demand in Vancouver as the western Canadian point for interconnection,” said Bill Fathers, chairman and CEO of Cologix, pointing to hyperscale cloud providers such as Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform and IBM Cloud. “Vancouver is an emerging global hub to meet the requirements for cloud and SaaS service providers expanding north and APAC hyperscalers expanding east as momentum for cloud capacity accelerates.”

Fathers also suggested the additional capacity will help post-production film companies, gaming and other local enterprise customers support their hybrid-cloud infrastructures. Fathers took over the CEO role in June, replacing Grant van Rooyen. Before Cologix, Fathers was the executive vice-president of cloud services at VMware. Prior to VMware, he was the president of Savvis, a public data center and cloud infrastructure provider.

In addition to Vancouver – where Cologix delivers a total of eight MW – Cologix has data centres in Toronto and Montreal.
