In an age where businesses often have more data than they know what to do with it, IBM Corp. has released updates to its Bluemix cloud platform that will help accelerate the migration of data to the cloud.
In order to solve this problem, IBM has added three services to Bluemix: decision optimization on cloud, Bluemix Lift, and DashDB for transactions.
The three services will upgrade Bluemix’s ability to collect, manage, and interpret large amounts of data that organizations may collect with new workloads that are infused with Internet of Things (IoT) data and cognitive services.
Decision optimization on cloud is now in beta on Bluemix. Its primary function is to take large portions of data including predictions, master and transactional data, business goals, and business rules to prioritize business decisions like plans and schedules. For example, if a retailer needs to order new supply, the decision optimizer can suggest the most cost-efficient way to do so.
Additionally, decision optimization on cloud includes CPLEX optimizer engines, and can run as a standalone application, be embedded in other applications using REST APIs, or be used with Data Science Experience Notebooks.
Bluemix Lift is the data migration tool for the Watson Data Platform that moves data from current data centres to the cloud. It encrypts the data being transferred and can transfer data at up to 225 GB per hour. Even if there is an outage or connectivity loss during the migration process, Bluemix Lift continues uninterrupted.
DashDB for transactions is a fully managed SQL database service on Bluemix for cloud-based applications. It is available on select plans or pay-per-use units, and is a part of IBM’s dashDB portfolio.
These are the biggest updates to IBM’s Bluemix in almost a year, as this past January the company announced a new alert service to combat DevOps issues for the cloud service.
