Linksys introduces SimplyTap for new router line

Linksys is making available four new Smart Wi-Fi products.

The first is the Smart W-Fi Router AC 1200 and this unit will be round out by the EA6300, AC1600 and the EA6400 models.

According to the company, which was recently acquired by Belkin, Smart Wi-Fi routers can be installed from virtually any device through browser based set-up and with Linksys SimpleTap. SimplyTap technology allows the channel to connect new devices to the the customer’s network by scanning a QR code or NFC tag. All new models feature industry-standard beamforming technology that also helps router speed  and the wireless range, the company said.

SimpleTap also takes advantage of Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) by pushing the physical WPS button on the router or pushing the WPS button in the router’s browser or app interface.

Mike Chen, senior director of product management, Linksys said the increase in smart devices has created a demand for smarter Wi-Fi solutions that can keep up with all of today’s technology demands. Smart Wi-Fi routers has tools tools and apps that allow users to access and remotely manage everything from kids’ screen time, to centrally storing and streaming music and video, all through their smartphone or tablet, from anywhere in the world.

The new dual-band Linksys Smart Wi-Fi routers are equipped with the latest 802.11ac technology. Additionally, the new Smart Wi-Fi routers are IPv6-enabled, supporting the latest Internet Protocol technology.

The dual-band AC1600 is made for a five to seven connected device environment. This router has Wi-Fi speeds up to 1300 Mbps on the 5 GHz band and up to 300 Mbps on the 2.4 GHz band.

The EA6300 offers up to 867 Mbps on 5 GHz band and up to 300 Mbps on the 2.4 GHz band, while the the dual-band AC1200 is for a three to five connected device environment such as a PC, smartphone and Smart TV.

The Linksys Smart Wi-Fi routers start at $139.99 and do not surpass the $169.99 price point.
