SherWeb, a provider of cloud services and Microsoft’s 2013 World Hosting Partner of the Year, has acquired Thoughtbus, a privately-held brand of Nomia Inc.
The Montreal-based cloud provider told CDN that terms of the transaction have been kept confidential. However, Blue Beacon Capital served as the exclusive financial advisor to SherWeb in connection with this transaction.
ThoughtBus is located in the small town of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., known mainly for its horse racing track and the Travers Stakes. ThoughtBus offers hosted Exchange, SharePoint, Lync Server, CRM and mobile solutions for businesses with anywhere from 3 to 1,000 users. SherWeb does offer similar solution, but the company is looking to ThoughtBus as an extension its cloud services.
Geoff Citron, founder and president of Nomia, ThoughtBus’ parent company, said the move to the SherWeb platform was a logical step as the cloud hosting environment has been getting intensely competitive over the years. However, the company’s main focus is still customers and partners.
“We want them to not only adopt a hosting provider that shares our commitment to meeting organizations’ individual needs but also to get the best value for technology, scale and service that the market has to offer,” he said.
SherWeb address this by saying they intend to maintain the ThoughtBus platform in the near-term for current customers and partners. SherWeb also plans to continue to provide the same level of service they were accustomed to receiving prior to the acquisition.
With a customer base of more than 20,000 organizations across 100 countries, SherWeb holds a SOC 2 Type II certification, recognized worldwide as one of the strictest audit standards for service providers.
Peter Cassar, co-founder and CEO of SherWeb, said businesses are increasingly seeking out a type of ‘one-stop shop’ where they can not only get hosted productivity tools but also a whole spectrum of cloud services such as IaaS, PaaS and SaaS.
