MSI unveils lightest laptop packing Intel Core i7 processor

MSI introduced on Friday the X460, a new 14-inch ultraportable laptop that is said to be the lightest laptop to feature Intel’s top-of-the-line quad core i7 processor. The X460 and its sibling X460DX, which features dual graphics card-switching, are smaller than one inch thick and weigh in at 4.4 pounds. MSI has packed these laptops with other premium features, such as support for a second internal hard drive.

It’s unusual to find support for a second internal hard drive in an ultrathin laptop, but according to MSI’s press release, the X460 and X460DX have it. If you really want to ramp up performance, you can go with the optional solid state drive (SSD).

For the X460, you can choose between a Core i5 or Core i7 processor. The X460DX, on the other hand, seems to be designed more for gaming and entertainment, with the Nvidia discrete graphics card (supporting DirectX 11) and MSI GPU Boost technology and graphics card switch indicator; the X460DX only comes with the Intel Core i5 processor.

Both may last up to eight hours on battery and have an attractive brushed finish on the metal alloy chassis. (The laptops are said to have “an aerodynamic feather pattern” and covers and palm rest areas built of aluminum alloy.)

No word on pricing or release date yet for these latest additions to the growing MSI X-Slim line, which is looking quite attractive.
