The book-sized MP945 series use Intel’s Core Duo or Core Solo processors and are built around AOpen’s Mobile on Desktop (MoDT) technology.
Also coming out are more MoDT motherboards around which system builders can design PCs with small footprint and low-power requirements.
“If we start seeing a barrel of crude oil hitting $70, $80 or even $100, MoDT is going to play a major, major role in the marketplace,” predicts Al Peng, AOpen’s senior sales director, “especially replacing the entire IT infrastructure with much cooler, less power consumption PCs.”
The company’s first Mini PCs, similar in size to the Mac Mini, were introduced here in November. North Ameri-can sales “are pretty brisk,” said Peng.
The bottom-line MP945-X will sell for US$799 and comes with a Solo CPU, 512MB of memory, a 40GB hard drive and Windows XP Home. All units are Intel Viiv certified.
