Put your light switch on the Internet

The connected home is here. Or, at least, the connected light switch is.

Technology product vendor Belkin has announced the launch of its WeMo Light Switch, as an expansion to its WeMo smart home platform. It’s a Wi-Fi connected light switch that you can remotely access and manage, along with your full bank of connected household lights, from anywhere using Belkin’s WeMo app.

“The WeMo Light Switch brings the simplicity, affordability and approachability of WeMo to a remote lighting control market that can sometimes be daunting to consumers, said Ohad Zeira, director of product management at Belkin. “The Light Switch was the most requested new product by loyal WeMo users, and we are happy to offer another product that delivers the peace of mind that comes from knowing you can control and monitor your home from wherever you are, whenever you want.”

According to Belkin, the WeMo Light Switch connects into a home’s existing wiring and replaces an existing traditional light switch. Once it’s connected to your home Wi-Fi network, you can use the free WeMo app to turn lights on and off or put them on a pre-set schedule. The app is available for iOS 5.0 and Android 4 or higher, and the switch integrated with IFTTT, an online service that can create triggers based on Internet-based services such as e-mail, weather and social media.

The WeMo Light Switch is available now for $49.95.
