Silver Peak, Masergy team up to provide managed SD-WAN service

Silver Peak and Masergy have partnered to deliver a managed software-defined wide area network (SD-WAN) service to enterprise customers

The new service is based on Silver Peak’s Unity EdgeConnect and Unity Boost. It also expands on the existing Masergy Managed Network offering and Masergy’s high-performance managed SD-WAN products. Combined, the two SD-WAN vendors will provide enterprises with a managed SD-WAN service that uses Silver Peak’s zero-touch provisioning, centralized orchestration and dynamic path control features as part of the Masergy Managed Network.

“After evaluating a range of SD-WAN solutions, we selected the Silver Peak EdgeConnect SD-WAN solution based on its advanced software, performance and security features and functionality,” said Tim Naramore, CTO of Masergy, in a statement. “When you combine our patented technology, hybrid networking and unmatched customer experience with Silver Peak’s ability to build simple-to-deploy and dynamic SD-WANs, we will deliver truly unique and differentiated service offerings to our customers.”

The Masergy managed SD-WAN service was designed to enable next-generation network designs with the intention of improving customers’ application performance and security. The vendor also promises improved price/performance optimization.

Some of the core features Masergy and Silver Peak are touting include dynamic path control and adaptive forward error correction, automatic IP-VPN tunnels with AES 256 encryption, dynamic policy-based application routing, as well as centralized policy and configuration management.

“Masergy is leading the network services transformation by offering flexible and differentiated managed SD-WAN service that fully supports its long-term vision for the programmable enterprise,” said David Hughes, founder and CEO of Silver Peak, in a statement.

The market for SD-WAN solutions is growing. Gartner expects that 30 per cent of enterprises will use SD-WAN technology to some degree by the end of 2019.

IDC predicts the market will be valued at US$6 billion worldwide by the end of 2020. Considering the market value was only at US$225 million in 2015, that’s better than a 90 per cent compound annual growth rate over the next few years. The growing market should create plenty of opportunities for SD-WAN vendors and their partners.
