The top 25 newsmakers of 2007 – Number 21: Pete Edwards

According to Pete Edwards, general manager of CDW Canada Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of CDW Corp., there is a well-known saying for those working in the company that goes, “success means never being satisfied.”

It is this philosophy that Edwards says has helped lead the company to another year of solid execution in Canada. He says this can be measured with the growth of the CDW Canada account management team, which has almost doubled over the past year. He says the company expects to add an additional 70 to 80 more members to the team in 2008.

“Our goal is to make sure we can continue to build on what it is our customers need,” Edwards said. “As the brand grows, we need to make customers understand what we have to offer.”

While Edwards says the company is growing in the high double-digit numbers in every market it’s in, he admits that the company hopes to capitalize more in the Quebec region. Helping to ensure this reach, Edwards says, is the more than 7,000 outbound calls the company makes on a daily basis.

Edwards says software is CDW Canada’s largest category, which also represents a significant component of the company’s overall customer spend, which also means more market opportunities.

“Our core competencies are in the SMB space,” Edwards said. “We currently have between 350 to 400 partners in Canada and these numbers reflect our customer demand.”

With CDW Canada’s in-house and partner teams, Edwards is aiming high.

“We believe we’ll be number one [when it comes to being a technology products and services provider],” Edwards said. “It’s not a matter of if, but it’s really a matter of when.”
