Acer expands its 2-in-1 “Switch” notebook lineup

PC vendor Acer has expanded Switch line of two-in-one notebooks running Windows 8.1 – there’s the new 11.6” Asipire Switch 11 series and a new model in the 10.1” Switch series. Both lines combine a full Windows-based notebook and tablet in one device.

Both Switch models use the magnetic detachable Acer Snap Hinge, which has two hooks that connect the keyboard and the tablet and a two-way connector to hold the tablet for two-sided viewing, designed for easy transitioning between modes.

“We’re thrilled that the flexibility and portability of our Acer Aspire Switch series has resonated with customers,” said Jerry Kao, general manager of Acer Notebook Business Group, in a statement. “Our new models sporting larger 11.6-inch screens with durable Gorilla Glass 3, an anti-fingerprint coating and a responsive Chiclet keyboard should be a hit with both students and professionals alike.”

The new Aspire Switch 11 models feature an 11.6” display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and an anti-fingerprint coating, as well as a Chiclet keyboard with tactile feedback and two front-spacing stereo speakers.

The device measures less than 8.9 mm thin in tablet mode and 20.2 mm with the keyboard. There are 32GB and 64GB storage options available, with 2GB RAM and an Intel Atom quad-core processor. The 2MP HD webcam has 1920 x 1080 resolution and 1080p Full HD audio/video recording.

The Acer Aspire Switch 11 series will be available in October starting at US$399, and the Acer Aspire Switch 10 series will be available in September starting at US$329.99.
