Acer Timeline: Half the Price, Half the Style of the MacBook Air

Dylan Tweney reviews the Acer Timeline notebook and compares it to Apple’s Macbook Air.
“The Aspire Timeline 3810T sports a slim profile, a reasonably light 3.5-pound weight and a brilliant 13-inch screen. It’s nearly everything the MacBook Air is, except expensive and sexy. And that’s the problem: Despite doing nearly everything right, Acer’s designers still managed to make the Timeline into a rather humdrum notebook. It’s slim, but lacks the alluring wedge lines of the Air.”
HP’s Hurd: ‘Business is stabilizing’; Units (except for services) still take revenue hit

Larry Dignan recaps HP’s recent conference call where Mark Hurd, CEO of Hewlett-Packard said “business is stablizing.”
“On a conference call, Hurd noted that ‘business is stabilizing.’ Hurd added that he was pleased with the company’s ‘execution in a tough market.’ He said HP was strong in China and has seen an economic rebound there, but hasn’t seen the same bounce in the U.S. Hurd wasn’t about to call a bottom and seemed to indicate that the current level of demand would continue for the rest of the year.”
Acer reportedly set to launch three touch-enabled, Windows 7-based devices

Donald Melanson writes that according to DigiTimes, Acer will launch three “touch-enabled products” that are loaded with Windows 7.
“That word apparently comes straight from a product manager in the company’s mobile computer department, who also went on to say that touch-enabled netbooks might see ‘good market acceptance’ if they’re marketed as cheaper alternatives to tablet PCs, although it’s not clear if the products in question are actually touch-enabled netbooks.”
