Adtran shows new series of Wi-Fi enabled multiservice switch-routers

HUNTSVILLE, Ala.– Adtran Inc. announced a new performance-enhanced business-class Multiservice Access Router. The NetVanta 1335 integrates a modular IP access router, 802.11a/b/g Wireless Access Point (WAP), 24-port Layer 2/3 Power over Ethernet (PoE) switch, firewall, VPN appliance, and DSU/CSU, all in a single, compact chassis.

Available next week, it features RapidRoute technology, delivering performance necessary for IP telephony, corporate connectivity and Internet access, with advanced services like Quality of Service (QoS), Network Address Translation (NAT) and firewall enabled.

The NetVanta 1335 with Wi-Fi provides 802.11a/b/g dual radio support at speeds up to 54Mbps. It offers advanced business-class features including multiple SSIDs, the ability to disable SSID broadcasts, 802.1x for user authentication, and WPA2 support. It also employs the concept of Virtual Access Points (VAPs), the equivalent of wireless VLANs, that allow customers to securely segment their wireless network just as they would their wired network.

“As the need for instantaneous information continues to grow, so does the importance of wireless connectivity,” said Tim Saunders, vice-president of product management at Adtran’s enterprise networks division.

“By adding Wi-Fi to our integrated platforms we are increasing the number of applications this product will serve in the SMB space. We continue to provide SMB customers with an all-in-one business solution that meets their needs in terms of both functionality and price point.”

This 1U-high platform offers a single expansion slot that can house any of the NetVanta Network Interface Modules (NIMs) or Dial backup Interface Modules (DIMs). For uplink or stacking capabilities, it also includes one or two Gigabit SFP/1000Base-T Ethernet interface(s), dependent upon the model.

The NetVanta 1335 with Wi-Fi lists for US$1,995; NetVanta 1335 with PoE and Wi-Fi lists for US$2,795.
