Alcatel-Lucent, HP integrate SOA security, governance tools

Alcatel-Lucent and HP Wednesday announced the integration of their respective products for managing and securing Web services-based networks.

Alcatel-Lucent’s OmniAccess 8550 Web Services Gateway is a security appliance used to secure access to content and monitor for unauthorized transmission of XML-based traffic. The 8550 is now able to defend a network based on detail provided by HP SOA Systinet, a management tool used in services-oriented architecture (SOA) environments.

SOA Systinet acts as a registry and depository for SOA programming for the enterprise. It supports SOA governance, letting software architects set policies and enforcement points for code use.

“The 8550 can download from Systinet the details of where the software is located and how it should be used,” says Cliff Grossner, product manager in the Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise Security Group. “Systinet is the depository for the rules, but the 8550 can now be the gateway that enforces them.”

Alcatel-Lucent and HP also announced a co-marketing arrangement in tandem with the technical-integration effort.
