Cisco Subnet includes the thoughts of Shannon Cross, an analyst at Livingston, N.J.-based Cross Research Group around HP being a $120 billion company and what it must do in order to grow.

“They have to grow through acquisitions because it’s just difficult to move the needle when you have almost $120 billion in revenue. They’re very competent in buying companies and integrating them into their businesses.”

Fujitsu Technology Solutions goes global

Chris Mellor writes that Fujitsu Technology Solutions (formerly known as Fujitsu Siemens Computers) is launching into the meeting data centre infrastructure space with its recently announced BX900 blade server.

“FTS will offer products to its channel, infrastructure platforms to its customers, managed infrastructure services with FTS managing its product in customers’ premises, and hosted Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IAAS). This is where FTS-supplied product, located in a Fujitsu data centre, is supplied as a platform service to customers.”

AMD grabs back some market share from Intel

Larry Dignan writes that according to IDC, AMD has gained market share on Intel in the first quarter as “global PC semiconductor shipments fell 13 per cent from a year ago.”

“The tug of war between AMD and Intel is notable given the nuances of the processor market. According to IDC data, Intel remains top dog with a unit market share of 77.3 per cent, but that’s down 4.7 per cent from a year ago. AMD’s market share in the first quarter was 22.3 per cent, up 4.6 per cent from a year ago.”
