Server recovery picks up steam in Q2
The Register
Timothy Prickett Morgan writes about the state of the server business market.

“The recovery in the server business is building momentum and the box counters at IDC believe that server makers peddled and pushed $10.9B in aluminum, tin, and iron in the second quarter of 2010, an increase of 11 per cent compared to last year. Those revenues were driven substantially by increasing shipments of x64-based servers in the volume and midrange space, and in spite of some major product transitions that hurt sales among several of the biggest server sellers.”

HP Mini 100e first look: What does $300 get you these days?

Christopher Dawson shares his opinion on the HP Mini 100e netbook.

“The Mini 100e has a couple things going for it that are missing from mainstream netbooks at this price point. The keyboard is waterproof and the chiclet keys on the 92 per cent keyboard are well laid out and incredibly easy for touch typing. Score one for the 100e on usability and durability from the keyboard perspective.”

Analyst: Expect iPod touch, iTunes, Apple TV at September event
The Loop
Jim Dalrymple shares Gene Munster’s (a senior research analyst at Piper Jaffray), forecasts on what Apple will announce later this year.

“Piper Jaffray Senior Research Analyst, Gene Munster, said he expects updates to iTunes, the Apple TV and the iPod touch. The iPod touch is expected to feature a back-facing camera for still images and videos and a front-facing camera for FaceTime video calls. Munster said he has no specific knowledge of a new Apple TV, but did say the rumored strategy of having apps on the device ‘would fall into company strategy and product cycles nicely.’ Apple’s cloud-based iTunes service announcement is also likely at the September event, although Munster doesn’t believe the service will launch until later in the year.”
