Demand waning? Apple cuts iPhone inventory 20 per cent

Nicholas Carlson writes that according to an analyst at Pacific Crest Securities, Apple has cut back on its iPhone inventory levels.
Analyst: “Apple has cut that number to between 14 million and 15 million. BlackBerry maker RIM announced lower-than-expected quarterly sales last week, so perhaps Apple is seeing a similar softening in demand. Another possibility: Apple plans to quit selling its iPhone with 8GB of storage and sell its 16GB model for $199 instead. The news is not helping Apple shares, which are already down 13 per cent on analysts’ predictions that strapped consumers will buy fewer Macs.”

Microsoft christens next tool suite release ‘Visual Studio 2010′

Mary Jo Foley provides some news on Microsoft’s upcoming Visual Studio release.
“Microsoft is naming the next release of its Visual Studio integrated development platform “Visual Studio 2010″ – but that doesn’t necessarily mean it won’t ship until 2010. Microsoft went public with the new name on September 29. Based on previous Microsoft naming convention, Visual Studio 2010 could ship either in the latter half of 2009 or the first part of 2010.”
