Belkin’s acquisition of Linksys a done deal

It’s a done deal. Belkin said Friday that it has completed its acquisition of Linksys, the small and medium-sized business-focused (SMB) wireless division of Cisco Systems.

Announced in January, the financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed. CDN reported at the time that all Cisco Linksys employees will be retained and the Linksys brand will still be used. That was confirmed Friday, with Belkin saying the Linksys technology portfolio and services will be managed and maintained as a separate brand and product portfolio.

“Linksys has a rich heritage, a passionate customer base and a wide product line, all of which fuelled our decision to acquire the company and our plan to maintain the Linksys brand,” said Chet Pipkin, CEO of Belkin, in a statement. “The Linksys portfolio will continue to exist and evolve to include even richer user experiences and network management functionality. Smart Wi-Fi is an innovative and easy way for consumers to stay connected to their home network and we look to continue investing in it by adding more features and products.“

According to Belkin, new Linksys products will continue to come to market in the near future, including several announcements this spring, and support for Linksys products will continue through existing support channels.
