CDN News Roundup: Blackberry’s swagger and inside HP’s split

It’s been a busy couple of weeks in the solution provider channel in Canada. Here’s an update on the latest channel news from CDN.

When John Chen took over as executive chair and CEO of financially-troubled BlackBerry exactly a year ago, he decided the company had to focus more on serving enterprise customers.

Christoph Schnell, the senior vice-president of HP Printing and Personal Systems Group (PPS), along with the managing director of HP Americas, revealed many new factors of the HP split during the VARnex conference.

While Cisco Systems’ high-end, immersive room-based TelePresence solution got high marks for user experience, installing it required a lot of skillsets that most of its partners just don’t have.

Lenovo confirmed Motorola will run as a separate entity. Rob Cato, the director of US distribution and VARs for Lenovo, said even though Motorola is on its own Lenovo plans on leveraging its presence in the market.

Microsoft’s third store in the Greater Toronto Area and ninth in Canada overall has opened at Toronto’s Eaton Centre and is being touted as a “flagship” store despite a slightly smaller retail size and launch.
