With both Amazon Web Services and Microsoft opening data centres officially in late 2016 and early 2017, it’s no surprise that partner Scalar Decisions had a big year, scoring CDN’s Top 100 Solution Providers Storage Provider award.
Scalar, which is a Toronto-based solution provider with nine offices across Canada and over 300 employees, maintained its #8 spot on the Top 100 List with $325-$350 million in revenue last year. Last year Scalar’s revenue range fell under the $300-$325 million range. The company originally debuted on the CDN Top 100 list 11 years ago at #75.
“Sales in storage are the foundation of how we started Scalar and remains to be an integral part of our business. Receiving the Storage Provider of the Year award is a phenomenal achievement,” said Paul Kerr, president and CEO of Scalar in a release. “It’s important for our clients to know they can trust us with their toughest technology challenges and that we’ll provide them an excellent experience while solving them.”
2017 was a banner year for the solution provider, who added a digital transformation practice, as well as Disaster Recover as a Service (DRaaS) solution that allows clients to copy backups of their data to in-country AWS or Microsoft Azure data centres, which can then be restored in the case of a digital attack.
Scalar was also named Dell EMC Canada’s 2017 Datacentre Solutions Partner of the Year, the 2017 NetApp Canada Partner of the Year, and was recognized by Deloitte as one of Canada’s best managed companies for 2018.
And Scalar did not stop there – it also focused on raising awareness and funding for Sick Kids, an organization Scalar has a long history with by developing IT research facilities. It also pledged $500,000 to a data centre at the Peter Gilgan Centre for Research and Learning that gives researchers access to high performance computing that can speed up many research endeavours at Sick Kids.
The CDN Top 100 solution-specific award categories are based on percentage of overall revenue in that category.
