Networking vendor Cisco Systems (NASDAQ: CSCO) has made a change in its senior leadership ranks with the creation of a new position within Cisco – chief operating officer – reporting directly to CEO John Chambers.
The COO position will be filled by Gary Moore, a Cisco veteran who previously ran Cisco’s services business. He’ll also hold the title of executive vice-president. Before Moore joined Cisco in 2001 he was CEO of network consulting company Netigy Corporation, and also held senior positions with EDS Corp. and served as president and CEO of Hitachi Data Systems.
“Gary is a seasoned and trusted leader who consistently delivers results. He is uniquely qualified to drive strategic prioritization and accountability within Cisco, with a laser-focus on operational excellence,” said Chambers in a statement. “I have tremendous confidence in Gary’s ability to align Cisco’s world-class innovation engine with industry-leading operational practices to drive and extend the next-generation of Cisco’s market leadership.”
Moore will assume responsibility for engineering, marketing, operations and services organizations, and be responsible for the alignment and prioritization of company investments.
