Cisco’s latest partnership with Cohesity addresses data fragmentation

A few weeks after Cohesity Inc. announced the ability for third-party applications to run on its platform, the hyperconverged secondary storage vendor says it’s joined Cisco’s SolutionsPlus program.

Cisco SolutionsPlus is a reselling program that places a select number of “Cisco Compatible” products on the Cisco Systems Global Price List. Cohesity software, such as its backup and recovery solutions, have joined the exclusive group, and customers can purchase a complete Cohesity and Cisco solution through a single Cisco purchase order. In addition to the expanded market opportunity, Cisco says partners will benefit by a simpler quoting and delivery process for Cohesity solutions.

In a blog post Monday, Vijay Venugopal, senior director of product management for HyperFlex at Cisco, explained the Cisco and Cohesity solution combines primary data and apps on Cisco HyperFlex with secondary data on the Cohesity DataPlatform, all built on a single unified architecture based on the Cisco Unified Computing System.

Terry Ramos, vice-president of alliances for Cohesity, said Cisco HyperFlex and Cisco UCS, are good complementary pieces to their own integrated architecture, which means partners and customers will have an easier time gaining insights from their data. Helping clients sort through troves of data is going to be a hot business opportunity in the coming years. IDC says the big data and analytics software market, which in 2017 reached $54.1 billion worldwide, is expected to grow at a five-year compound annual growth rate of more than 11 per cent.

“In Cisco, we have a partner that shares our vision of eliminating mass data fragmentation,” Ramos said in a press release.
