Citrix tries to woo crowds with XenApp 5

Kelly Fiveash writes how Citrix Systems is releasing XenApp 5 next month to gain more ground in the data centre and virtualization marketplace.
“The general availability release of XenApp 5 on 10 September will mean local applications start-up 10 times faster as well as a reduction in application management costs, the firm claimed. XenApp 5, which runs on Microsoft’s 2003 and 2008 server platforms, is used to virtualize Windows-based apps such as Office on servers that are managed centrally at the company’s data farms.”
Sign language over cell phones in the U.S.

Roland Piquepaille says hearing impaired cell phone users may soon be able to use sign language over their mobile devices.
“Thanks to University of Washington (UW) computer scientists, hearing-impaired users might soon be able to use sign language over a mobile phone, like in Japan or Sweden. The research team received a grant from the U.S. National Science Foundation to start a 20-person field project next year in Seattle. Of course, deaf people were already able to use text messages for communication. But as said the lead researcher, ‘the point is you want to be able to communicate in your native language.’”
Dell prepping IT certifications for health care, federal government partners

“The company is exploring a range of new partner initiatives, including IT certifications for health care and federal government partners. Davis also says changes are coming to Dell’s deal registration system, which currently doesn’t accept engagements valued at under $50,000.”
