“Microsoft has successfully defeated a number of attempts to mandate ODF format documents for official U.S. State documents. Thanks to heavy lobbying by the Redmond giant, bills in California, Connecticut, Florida, Texas and Oregon have all been shelved, stalled indefinitely or tossed out the window entirely.”

Word is rejected

Stan Beer of the Beer Files says Word 2007 documents were rejected by leading science journals.
“When I first read a blog pointed to by nerd news aggregator Slashdot that two of the world’s leading science journals are rejecting document submissions in Word 2007, I was mildly intrigued. When I discovered that not even Word 2007 documents saved in earlier version Microsoft Word formats would accepted, my interest level shot through the roof.”
