Mashable
Erica Swallow provides some insight on creating a social media policy in the workplace.

“A social media policy is a great way to set your company’s expectations for social media use in writing for all to see – either internally or externally (or both). These policies come in many forms and can be sensitive documents only for company eyes or public-facing guidelines shared with the world. Sarah Perez sheds some light on the demand for developers with Android skills.

“According to a recent report from global hiring marketplace oDesk, demand for developers with Android skills is up 710 per cent in October 2010 versus October 2009. The increased demand is not surprising, given the mobile operating system’s rapid climb over the past 12+ months, now reaching its new status as the number one mobile OS in the United States and number two worldwide, as of Q3 2010. In oDesk‘s, latest Online Employment Report, which examines aggregated data from its platform of over 57,000 jobs, ‘Android’ as a skill set moved up 70 spots (+70 YoY) since the previous report last October when it was ranked at #110.”

Mary Meeker: Smartphones Will Surpass PC Shipments In Two Years
TechCrunch
Erick Schonfeld shares some forecasts from Morgan Stanley regarding smartphone shipments.

“Morgan Stanley estimates that global smartphone shipments will eclipse PC shipments in 2012, with more than 400M smartphones expected to be shipped that year, compared to less than 200M last year. This prediction is reasonable. Smartphones are cheaper and phones, in general, are more ubiquitous. To the extent that all phones are becoming smartphones, they will be much more accessible and portable and than PCs (laptops included). They are certainly becoming just as capable, at least as far as surfing the Web is concerned, not to mention the hundreds of thousands of apps available for platforms like the iPhone, Android, and Blackberry.”
