Dell makes push into embedded PC market

Dell has announced its first PCs to take the embedded form factor.

The Embedded Box PC 3000 and 5000 Series are fanless and ruggedized, and are designed to work in harsh environments alongside IoT devices.

The devices are designed to work with or without keyboards mice and monitors. They run on Intel Atom or Core processors, and offer various wired or wireless input and output options.

The 5000 series comes with two PCI/PCIe card slots and are meant for video streaming apps or high frequency sensor data sources, manufacturing and automation control.

Both have applications where space is limited, such as in retail kiosks, automated vending devices and vehicles.

Other features include MIL-STD 810G DIN-rail, VESA, or wall mount options, 5-year lifecycle and OEM-ready options, and Microsoft Windows 7 Pro, Windows 7 Embedded, Windows 10 Pro and Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSB and Ubuntu Desktop operating systems.

They start at CA $1,529 and $2,379 and will be available in the summer.
