Orem, Utah – Ray Noorda, president and CEO of Novell Inc. from 1983 to 1995, passed away in his home in Utah on Oct. 9
He was 82.
At Novell, Noorda spearheaded the success of Netware, a network operating system linking desktop computers to printers, file servers and directories.
He achieved many accolades as a business and technology visionary and was known as the “Father of Network Computing” for his technical understanding of emerging technologies and for his expertise in growing the networking industry.
After retiring from Novell, Noorda founded The Canopy Group, which invested in over 100 start-up companies, most of them in Utah, as a way of driving technological innovation and job growth in the region.
Ray is survived by his wife of 56 years, Tye Noorda, his four sons and 13 grandchildren.
New channel exec at McAfee
Markham, Ont. – McAfee has appointed Roger King as executive vice-president of worldwide sales.
King will be in charge of leading a dedicated worldwide sales team and overseeing all of McAfee’s sales operations and channel development. He will report directly to Kevin Weiss, president of McAfee.
Previous to this post King was president of Software Spectrum.
Mitel’s York joins VOIPSA board
OTTAWA – Dan York, Mitel’s director of IP technology, has been appointed to the Voice over IP Security Alliance (VOIPSA) board of directors as best practices chair.
In his role, York will lead the project to develop and document a concise set of industry-wide best practices for security VoIP systems.
He will also head up VOIPSA’s move into “social media” with the launch of VOIPSA’s group Weblog.
