Fujitsu stakes claim in green IT services

Heather Clancy writes about new green IT services from Fujitsu.
“After a successful test in Australia, Fujitsu is launching a portfolio of green IT services that it says will help the average enterprise reduce its carbon footprint and energy costs. Kartik Ravel, senior director for Fujitsu enterprise business services, while the new offerings absolutely will address data center efficiency, they are more focused on changing user electricity consumption habits related to desktop and peripheral technologies.”
HP grabs printer market share

Larry Dignan writes about the printer market in this year’s second quarter.
“The overall printer market saw revenue surge 14 percent in the second quarter to $13.3 billion, according to IDC. Hewlett-Packard continued to gain share. Among the notable points from IDC: Inkjet printers have 66 per cent share of the printer market. Meanwhile, inkjet printers posted 14 per cent unit growth in the second quarter with 19 million units. That’s the most growth since 2003 (and) Laser printers posted the strongest growth with units up 25 per cent to 9 million in the second quarter. Monochrome laser printers accounted for 83 per cent of the market.”
Intel Buys Infineon, Gives Up on Smartphone Atoms

Zealot shares his opinion of what’s next for Intel, now that the company’s purchased wireless/communications division of Infineon, a German chip maker.
“I would not be surprised if there are steps underway at Apple to begin producing their own wireless chips, just as they opted to create their own processors for the iPhone/iPad with the iPhone. Look for Apple to be buying a communications chip vendor in the near future in order to keep from making he next iPhone dependent on Intel.”
