How Microsoft technology drives IT job growth

“IT job seekers would be smart to explore gaining an IT certification with Microsoft, according to the software maker, who says a revamped training catalog addresses emerging technologies such as virtualization and cloud computing as well as foundational high-tech skills. ‘An IT career is a super bet right now. We are looking at skills shortages around the world, with 5.5 million jobs expected to be coming into the IT industry by 2013,” Chris Pirie, general manager of sales and marketing for Microsoft Learning said. “The call is to stay current and demonstrate that currency by having advanced skill sets.’”
Cisco spices up unified communications for SMBs

“Cisco this week sought to bring more unified communications capabilities to small and medium-sized businesses by unveiling enhancements across some key SMB platforms. Specifically, Cisco rolled out additions to its Services Ready Platform CPE managed services gateway, Wireless VPN Firewall, and Cisco 100 Unmanaged Switch, according to this report by PC World’s Patrick Miller.”
Android in 2013: Beyond Smartphones

“While people think of Android and smartphones, another area where Android may enter is in lower-end ‘feature phones.’ As CPU and flash prices fall, what had been powering a low-end Android device (e.g., T-Mobile G1) could power a less-expensive phone, particularly when coupled with other cost savings (e.g., no touchscreen, no GPS). While the smartphone gains ground in the US and other nations, less-expensive phones are dominant elsewhere. By 2013, a few manufacturers are likely to have tried Android in this segment.”
