Hockey Night in Distribution

Tech Data Canada (Nasdaq: TECD)had a showdown of sorts with its rival Synnex Canada in an all-out, no-holds barred hockey game. The “informal event” was held at the South Fletcher Arena in Brampton, Ont., a suburb of Toronto.

Synnex Canada (NYSE: SNX)opened the scoring just few seconds into the game and it also scored on a penalty shot but it wasn’t enough as Tech Data roared back and beat them 9 to 4 in a spirited contest. Funds collected will go to the United Way.

A little-known fact about Tech Data Canada president Rick Reid: he has been playing hockey since he was five years of age. Now there is true passion for the sport.

Spirit of Wellness

It is truly rare that any organization in the high tech sector takes work-life balance to heart. Most companies practice work-life blending – except for D&H Distributing of course. D&H often times allows its workers to have more family time. But rival Ingram Micro (NYSE: IM) is taking a step in that direction with its inaugural Spring Into Wellness event at its Buffalo, N.Y. facility just a hop, skip and a jump from the Canadian border.

Developed in collaboration with a number of local health and wellness organizations, this one-day event offered Ingram Micro’s more than 1,400 local Buffalo associates valuable tools and information that can help them foster a stronger work/life balance. The Ingram Micro Philanthropic Committee will also be onsite to educate associates about runs and walks that the committee is sponsoring throughout the year in support of local nonprofits. Associates will be able to sign up through the Philanthropic Committee to participate in Ingram Micro’s Corporate Challenge Race, which takes place in the summer.

D&H doubles up

D&H Distributing of Harrisburg, Penn., is implementing a new SMB Credit Enhancement Program targeted at smaller solution providers. The distributor plans to offer credit lines of more than 1,900 of its valued small- to medium-size independent resellers, which will approximately double the credit capabilities of many of these VARs. It is sponsored by D&H vendor partners Cisco and Lenovo, in order to foster an environment for new SMB sales opportunities, according to the company.

A select group of D&H resellers with current credit lines of between $10,000 and $30,000 are having their limits extended up to a $50,000 limit (specific amounts depending upon the individual VAR). D&H estimates the cumulative amount of credit extensions from this initiative could reach the $15 to $20 million range.
