What’s the buzz about Microsoft’s Service Manager product?

Kerrie Meyler shares details about Microsoft’s Service Manager 2010 product.
“Service Manager endeavors to improve and simplify IT service desk operations, and has the capability to simplify and normalize support processes across your entire IT organization. In addition to providing end users with a support submission tool and self-service tools, Service Manager integrates with other System Center products with an objective of improving IT operations. As an example, when Operations Manager generates an alert for a server access issue, Service Manager can automatically create an incident and assign it to support staff. The automation between the products eliminates the requirement to go through a manual ticket creation process.”

Chris Mellor writes about Seagate’s new 2.5-inch hard drive, the Constellation 2.
“The drive is made for server storage applications, including direct-attached, network-attached and SAN storage, and, as expected, has a 6Gbit/s interface, both SATA and SAS, and capacity points of 250GB, 500GB and 1TB. There are 1.4 million hours between failures and a self-encrypting drive option. The drive spins at 7,200rpm and has a 64MB cache. The areal density is 417Gbit/in2 and the z-height is 15mm.”
Microsoft to show off true iPad competitors at CES?

Mary Jo Foley writes that Microsoft may be announcing new tablets at CES.
“The New York Times is reporting that Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer may show off some new slates and tablets from various PC partners at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2011 in January. Sounds like CES 2010 revisited, doesn’t it? Last year, the centerpiece of Ballmer’s keynote was an HP slate prototype (that ultimately emerged as a very different looking HP Slate 500 product aimed at business users).”
