Asus to make grab for Toshiba’s notebook biz?

James Sherwood writes why Asus is reported to possibly be looking to acquire Toshiba’s notebook business.
“Asus may seek to acquire Toshiba’s notebook business in order to become the world’s third-largest laptop manufacturer, the Taiwanese firm has said. Outspoken company chief Johnny Shih said Toshiba’s notebook business has been identified as one of Asus’ possible targets, according to a report by Chinese-language website Commercial Times, as cited by Digitimes. Asus has already had contact of some sort with Toshiba, Shih reportedly added, but nothing has been finalized.”

“Wi-Fi today is still something you find when you go somewhere (or with a Wi-Fi PAN that in a sense you carry with you. It’s not yet quite a mobile service in the same way cellular voice/data is. But mobile Wi-Fi will get better in the three to five year timeframe, also, more easily and effectively used in areas of Wi-Fi coverage. That’s my take, anyway.”
Apple wins legal battle against Psystar

Jim Dalrymple recaps Apple’s win with its legal battle against Mac clone-maker vendor, Psystar.
“Apple and Psystar both filed motions for summary judgment with the court, but Judge William Alsup agreed with Apple. In his decision, the judge sided solely with Apple and denied Psystar’s claims, according to the court documents posted by legal site Groklaw. Apple and Psystar will be back in court between November 23 and December 7 to work out the details.”
