HP calls new business notebooks its thinnest, lightest yet

Hewlett-Packard Co. is calling its new HP EliteBook Folio 1020 and EliteBook 1020 SE the industry’s thinnest and lightest line of business-class notebooks, measuring just 15.7mm thin.

The two models share the same cutting-edge design, but the SE uses magnesium-lithium alloy and reusable carbon fiber to weigh in at just 2.2 lbs. The 1020 weighs in at 2.68 lbs. Designed for enterprise mobility, the models come with up to nine hours of battery life for all work-day computing and are designed to meet the MIL-STD 810G military grade for drops, shocks, exposure to extremes of temperature and humidity and high pressure testing.

“The HP EliteBook 1020 represents game-changing innovation in both materials and mechanical engineering to create the world’s thinnest and lightest business notebooks in a form factor that enables our customers to be more productive in more places,” said Alex Cho, vice-president and general manager, HP Commercial PCs, in a statement. “Customers demand not only a stylish, thin and light notebook, but also a device that delivers advanced security and can withstand the rigorous demands that come with a highly mobile lifestyle – and the HP EliteBook 1020 delivers this complete solution.”

The notebooks feature a fanless design, solid state storage and are powered by the latest Intel Core-MTM processor technology. Enterprise features include HP Client Management Solutions and optional LANDesk and Intel vProTM technology. They also feature Trusted Platform Module 1.2/2.06, pre-boot authentication, a fingerprint reader and the HP Sure Start self-healing BIOS.

There’s also a 720p webcam and front speakers featuring HD Audio with DTS Studio Sound and HP Noise Reduction Software.

Availability for the 1020 is expected in February, and the 1020SE in April. Pricing has not yet been finalized.
