IBM makes its biggest software security launch

As part of IBM’s second phase of its cybersecurity strategy, Big Blue has rolled out its biggest release of new software in its history.

Aimed at addressing the market challenges in mobility, cloud computing and big data, IBM introduced InfoSphere Guardium for Hadoop along with enhanced versions of InfoSphere Optim Data Privacy and Security Key Lifecycle Manager.

These three products are specific for big data environments. Hadoop based environments have opened the door to a world of possibilities, but it also has forced organizations to ingest more data subjecting them to significant risks across a complex threat landscape along with a number of compliance regulations, according to IBM.

With these releases, IBM is offering data security solutions for Hadoop and other big data environments. Guardium now provides real time monitoring and automated compliance reporting for Hadoop based systems such as InfoSphere BigInsights and Cloudera.

These products are part of IBM’s security division which was started after it acquired Q1Labs.

Brendan Hannigan, General Manager, IBM Security Systems, said a major shift is taking place in how organizations protect data. Today, data resides everywhere-mobile devices, in the cloud, on social media platforms. This is creating massive amounts of data, forcing organizations to move beyond a traditional siloed perimeter to a multi-perimeter approach in which security intelligence is applied closer to the target.

IBM also made available Security Access Manager for Cloud and Mobile along with an enhanced verion of its Endpoint Manager for Mobile Devices.

For the cloud, IBM released SmartCloud for Patch Management, Security Access Manager for Cloud and Mobile, Security Privileged Identity Manager, and an enhanced version of its QRadar SIEM and QRadar Log Manager.

IBM is also providing extra financing options from its Through IBM Global Financing arm. Credit-qualified customers can take advantage of zero per cent interest for 12 months on qualifying IBM Security products and solutions.
