Illegal labour practices found in China IT manufacturers

Samsung Electronics has conducted an audit of its China-based manufacturing facilities and suppliers and found that many of them practice excessive overtime and other illegal labour tactics.

Samsung audits were done over a four week time period at more than 100 manufacturers based in China. One of the illegal labour practices the audit found was employees being fined for being absence or late to work.

The South Korean-based technology giant began the audit after it was criticized for ignoring illegal labour practices some of which involved children.

The Samsung audit did not find any child labour in any Chinese plant they use.

Samsung did, however, encourage its supplier partners to adopt new hiring procedures and get rid of excessive overtime by 2014.
