Iolo System Mechanic 10

I’ve used a number of system utility clean-up tools from different vendors. All invariably find lots of problems on my system, and then tell me they’re fixed. It all seems a little abstract though, because I rarely notice any difference in system performance. It was the same with Iolo’s System Mechanic 10.

On the positives, Iolo has brought all the utility tools together in one easy user interface. With one click, either for a quick scan or the longer deep scan, a user can clean their registry, remove junk files, and tweak settings to improve performance. The novice user doesn’t need to be an expert to give their PC a tune-up.

I can’t say, though, that I’ve noticed any improvement in system performance. This is, though, a very needy program. With the dashboard widget, invariably every day I’m prompted to fix more problems that the program has discovered. It’s rather needy.

I’ve also been getting marketing e-mails, at least once a week and often more, from Iolo trying to get me to upgrade (I’m running a fully licensed edition) or purchase another of their programs. I don’t mind the odd marketing e-mail, but it’s a bit much.

Certainly everyone should have PC utility software, and System Mechanic brings it all together in an easy to use package. I’d just like it to be a bit less in my face.
