It was no hack, says GoDaddy

Internet registrar and hosting company GoDaddy insists Monday’s outage wasn’t caused by a hacker attack, reports Joab Jackson for PC World:

Corrupted router tables, not malicious protesters, were the culprits behind Monday’s widespread outage of GoDaddy’s Internet registrar and hosting services, the company reported. “The service outage was not caused by external influences,” wrote GoDaddy interim CEO Scott Wagner, in a short announcement issued Tuesday. “It was not a ‘hack’ and it was not a denial of service attack (DDoS).”

Twitter reports initially had hacker collective Anonymous claiming responsibility, but the Twitter user later claimed they were acting on their own, and not on the group’s behalf.

If GoDaddy has drawn the attention of hacktivist, it may be because of its controversial, support for the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA), which led Wikipedia to pull its domains form the company.
