Lenovo enters unified communications market with smart meeting solution

ORLANDO, FL – There are very few IT segments where Lenovo doesn’t have some sort of solution – after all the company’s goal is to go from a customer’s pocket to the data centre – but today there is one fewer segment still.

The hardware company has announced its Smart Meeting Room Solution, essentially a unified communications offering which allows various devices and screens to be able to collaborate in a workplace.

The solution combines Lenovo’s ThinkCentre Tiny desktop with Intel’s Unite software.

The software, which is a recent product from Intel, is designed to run on either a PC or Mac with an Core vPro processor inside. Using a 6-digit pin, devices can connect wirelessly to new or existing displays, projectors or whiteboards. Smart Meeting Room allows up to four simultaneous presentations.

According to Colin McIsaac, managing director of Lenovo Canada, the product is all part of the company’s push to offer solutions as opposed to computers.

“From an overall perspective, even in the PC space, we continue to evolve beyond hardware,” he told CDN at the company’s annual Accelerate Partner Forum. “You can see it with the data centre, you can see it around software, everything.”

The solution will be available on ThinkCentre M900 Tiny and M93p Tiny units starting at $619.
