Nokia sues Apple (again)

Rik Myslewski explains why Nokia is filing another patent-infringement lawsuit against Apple.
“Nokia has beefed up its legal challenge to Apple, filing a second patent-infringement lawsuit against Cupertino in US District Court in Delaware. This time around, the Finnish outfit says that Apple stole patents that make Nokia unique, including patents for a camera phone and a touch-screen display. The suit comes on the heels of the Finnish phonemaker’s filing last week of an infringement claim against Apple with the US International Trade Commission. At that time, Nokia issued a press release that said ‘virtually all of [Apple’s] mobile phones, portable music players, and computers’ infringed on Nokia patents.”
Microsoft offers Windows XP, Office XP users 50 percent discount to encourage upgrades

Mary Jo Foley highlights Microsoft’s new licensing promotion.
“The revamped “Up to Date Discount” program is targeted at small/mid-size business (SMB) customers running older versions of Windows and Office. Between January 1 and June 30 of this year, Microsoft is enabling users running Windows XP or Vista (on the operating system side) and Office XP, Office 2003 or Office 2007 (on the productivity suite side) to receive a discount of 50 percent on the cost of their licenses for Windows 7 and Office 2007 (or Office 2010, once it is released by June 2010).”
Samsung unveils four netbooks running on Intel Pine Trail; up to 12 hours battery life

Rachel King writes about some new netbooks from Samsung.
“Samsung has announced four new netbooks for its N-Series line: N210, N220, N150 and NB30. All of these will run on the Intel Pine Trail platform with an Atom N450 processor. The highlight of these new devices? Battery life. Samsung has taken note, incorporating Enhanced Battery Life solution support and an energy-efficient 10.1-inch LED display. The N210 and N220 should last up to 12 hours, the NB30 runs for 11 hours and the N150 keeps going up to 8.5 hours.”
