Newsmaker #16: Marcel Esorico, Hitachi Data Systems

Marcel EscorcioHitachi Data Systems (HDS) Canada got a major makeover in the executive suite in 2013 with the departure of long-time subsidiary head Barry Morrison and his replacement by another HDS veteran, Marcel Esorico.

Morrison, long the face of HDS in Canada, moved onto a global role with HDS in September as vice-president of global accounts. His successor as regional vice-president and general manager – Esorico – joined the storage vendor 24 years ago as a customer service representative, and steadily rose through the sales and management ranks. For the last five years, he has ran the GTA business for HDS.

At the time of his appointment, Esorico said the channel will be important to the vendor’s success going forward.

“Our biggest challenge is getting more people to know about us. We’ve got a great team and solution set,” said Escorcio. “The channel is a big part of our business. Our channel partners bring a lot of value in certain areas. We need to continue to enable them, educate them, and put them in a position of success.”

His appointment was well received by HDS partners, who got to know Esorico when he ran the Toronto business. Also new in the executive suite were Paul Lewis as CTO, and Peter Tassopoulos as the new Greater Toronto Area district manager.

Other news of note included a revamp of the Hitachi TrueNoth Partner program focusing on specialization, education, incentives and support, and new mid-range storage with flash storage acceleration hardware and related management software.
