Nortel makes numerous product announcements

Nortel made a number of announcements at the NXTcomm 2007 event in Chicago to support its hyperconnected world initiative. Hyperconnected world is where everything can be connected, anytime to the network, Nortel said.

At the show, Nortel introduced an enhanced optical portfolio, providing agility for delivery of revenue-generating services. New product enhancements include: a new compact OME 6130 convergence platform for extending TDM and Ethernet services for business and wireless applications that need capacity of up to 2.5G; a new PDH Gateway solution for delivering Ethernet services over existing copper access infrastructure driving reduced opex; a new fully integrated ROADM and amplifier capabilities on OME 6500 for reducing operational requirements in metro ROADM applications.

The company also unveiled Communications Server 1500 VoIP softswitch (CS 1500). Nortel is laying the foundation for advanced and cost-effective VoIP communications services through deployment of its carrier VoIP technology targeted for regional carriers.

Nortel released a new SIP-based and IMS-ready applications for businesses and consumers that permit access from any device across wireless, wireline or cable networks. The offerings focus on Web Services, Fixed Mobile Convergence (FMC), and Web portal customization, that allow carriers the opportunity to deliver a more personalized communications experience.
