It looks as though cloud adoption is still very much in its early phases.
A new report released by Softchoice suggests as low as 14 per cent of companies apply the cloud as a corporate standard.
The study, called the State of Cloud Readiness, found that many companies are “stuck in endless pilots or are hesitant to migrate to the public cloud in a meaningful way because they lack the strategy, skillsets and governance structures to build and maintain a fully realized cloud solution,” according to David MacDonald, Softchoice chief executive said in a statement.
For example, 61 per cent of organizations are found to be in either an experimental or limited phase of cloud use.
The survey looked at both the U.S. and Canada.
It seems that nearly the same amount of companies that have limited adoption are struggling with finding the right strategy. Fifty two percent lack a strategy altogether, according to the study.
While 53 per cent of organizations say they can’t find the necessary skills to support cloud initiatives, another half of those surveyed say that training is not actually a priority.
Spending is also an issue, with 57 per cent of IT decision makers exceeding cloud budgets while 44 per cent say they “struggle to hold lines of business accountable for cloud spending.”
Despite this, one in two IT decision makers have had to cancel or postpone initiatives due to the IT department’s inability to provide the necessary resources or support.
