Oracle targets Amazon Web Services

Watch out Amazon Web Services. Oracle Corp. (NASDAQ: ORCL) CEO Larry Ellison is eyeing their business, reports Chris Kanaracus of ComputerWorld:

Oracle is planning to roll out a new IaaS (infrastructure as a service) offering that will compete directly with Amazon Web Services, along with a service called Oracle Public Cloud that runs inside customers’ facilities, CEO Larry Ellison announced Sunday during a keynote address at the OpenWorld conference in San Francisco.

Ellison indicated to OpenWorld attendees that Oracle sees AWS as its primary competitor in the infrastructure as a service (IAAS) market. Amazon has helped to define the public cloud market and has become a dominant player in the space, but has drawn some concern over recent service outages.

Both Microsoft and Google have also announced plans to compete with Amazon on the IaaS space.
