CompTIA Survey: IT Companies Feeling Optimistic
The VAR Guy
Dave Courbanou writes that according to survey findings from CompTIA, IT companies feel optimistic about their businesses for the second half of this year.

“In the study, six in 10 IT firms expect Q3 and Q4 revenues to either significantly, or moderately exceed their Q1 and Q2 revenues. CompTIA says that despite the ‘unsteady’ economic recovery, feedback from the IT industry shows optimism and a predicted 5.4 point increase in the Business Confidence index inside six months.”

Developers increasingly have Android on the brain
Ars Technica
Chris Foresman writes about smartphone platforms and their popularities in today’s marketplace.

“In a recent report from VisionMobile, analyst Andreas Constantinou notes that while smartphone platforms like Symbian and BlackBerry have more market share by units sold, both iOS and Android are commanding the most mindshare. ‘For example,’ wrote Constantinou, ‘the Symbian operating system is deployed in around 390 million handsets (Q2 2010), and claims over 6,000 apps, while Apple’s iPhone has seen 30x more applications while being deployed at just 60 million units over the same period.’”

Designing an Effective Contact Us Page For Your Company’s Site
Read Write Web
John Paul Titlow offers advice on how to design a successful “contact us” page on your company’s Web site.

“When (a traditional e-mail link on the contact page is) clicked, such a link will open the default e-mail client on the user’s machine, which may or may not be what they actually use. While savvier Web users know to copy the e-mail address and paste it into their e-mail service of choice – or may even have their browser set up to do it for them – you can’t count on all of your prospective customers being Firefox plugin-slingin’ uber-geeks. Instead, use a Web form. Whether you use a third-party product like Wufoo or FormSite or have your Web guru build it themselves, a clean, easy-to-use form is going to get more of a response than a simple e-mail link.”
