RIM ventures deeper into consumer space

Research In Motion (RIM) is continuing its push into the consumer space with a new service aimed at MySpace and Tivo integration.

The MySpace application will push notifications of messages and updates to BlackBerry users, while the Tivo deal will let BlackBerry customers remotely manage and watch content from their Tivo boxes. CEO Jim Balsillie said the move is part of a greater company plan to put more focus on lifestyle, content, music and multimedia services.

RIM also announced a deal that will feature rival Microsoft’s Live Search bar on the BlackBerry browser, as well as a partnership with music streaming site Slacker.
