Rumour Has It: Apple considering developing an 8-in. iPad On The VAR Guy, Dave Courbanou looks at the rumours. “Steve Jobs infamously said that a 7-inch tablet wouldn’t be usable, but with all the love for 7-inch Android tablets such as the Kindle Fire, and Steve Jobs’ passing, Apple’s tune may have changed. Besides, it’s 8 inches, not 7 inches. So what kind of difference would two fewer inches really make?” he writes.

Cheap Android smartphones will dominate developing markets: report On ZDNet, Rachel King reports on the figures of a new study. “As shipments for cheaper Android handsets are expected to reach 340 million worldwide in three years, most of these devices will likely be running on Android 2.2 (Froyo) or 2.3 (Gingerbread) with single-core EDGE chips. Thus, the devices should be priced at $150 or less, with most devices being produced from the likes of Huawei, MicroMax, Motorola, Samsung, Spice, and ZTE,” she writes.

Official: Sony and Ericsson are divorced On The Register, Brid-Aine Parnell gives the details. “Sony Ericsson had been in trouble for some time as its later generations of smartphones failed to make a dent in the super-soaraway popularity of iPhones and Android. The pundits' preferred remedy to revive the mobile line-up involved melding PlayStation fun into the mobes, something Sony was unlikely to do while Ericsson was still on board,” Parnell writes.
