Mid-Range Computer Group, a long time IBM and Oracle business partner, has a new home and to a certain extent a new identity.
The company has moved into a 28,600 sq. ft. state of the art facility that includes not one but two data centres.
Dave Mountain, senior vice president of sales for Mid-Range, during a turn of the new facility told CDN that Mid-Range wants to be known as the top disaster recovery provider in the channel.
With that goal in mind, Mid-Range built more than 120 temporary offices for clients who for whatever reason can’t get to their computer or office.
Mountain said that if a client is struggling with a power-outtage, flood or any other disaster they can set up their team in any one of these offices, while their data is housed at the data centre.
The data centre is in two places that total 6,000 sq. ft. and is feed with three mega-watts for power form PowerStream. This data centre can do co-location, hosting, outsourcing and disaster recovery. It has redundant telecome fibre from Bell, Allstream and Atria Networks.
The raised floor is 12 inches more than the standard 24 inches to accommodate a closed loop chilled water cooling system. And, the data centre is monitored and secured around the clock.
Mid-Range will be offering customizeable caged computing spaces for clients who require strict security along with proactive IT branch circuit monitoring that can alert clients when their circuits are loaded to critical thresholds to prevent against overloading.
Mid-Range will also offer free cooling when and if the outdoor ambient temperature is below 5 degree Celsius. This enables Mid-Range to reduce the mechanical power requirements by up to 75 per cent.
According to the company, they are able to reduce the power usage effectiveness to about 1.6 compared to an industry average of 2.6 and as a result can decrease its costs by $13.3 million over a 10 year span.
The new facility is also future proofed. For example, clients can eventually move to liquid cooling.
